Attention Invisalign Patients: Please always remember to keep your aligners. You just never know when you may need them again.
For example, if you are in aligner #4, and you lose it at a restaurant, you will need to immediately go into another aligner that fits. A good choice is to use aligner #3, but you will need to reorder #4 and go through it again. If you are close to your switch day, you may also be able to move forward to aligner #5, if you have it. However, you may experience a little more tension than usual. The worst way to manage a lost aligner is to not wear anything at all. This will surely result in relapse toward a more crooked position, which usually occurs very quickly.
There have been instances in which patients have completely dropped the ball midway though their Invisalign treatment resulting in a full relapse. If luck is on your side, you may be able to restart your treatment with your old aligner #1, and avoid remaking any aligners.
It is good practice to clean and store old aligners back into their original packaging. Dedicate one shoebox to hold all of your aligners in numerical order. This will help you avoid panic if you lose an aligner. If you travel away from home, make sure you bring an extra aligner or two in case you lose your current aligner.
I will say it again, please always remember to keep your aligners.
